Ian Hayes Brett

Brief Biography

Ian Hayes Brett was born in Charlotte, NC in February of 1982.  His love of film began at an early age when his father took him to the theatre to see such modern classics as Full Metal Jacket, Goodfellas, JFK, and The Godfather Part III.  As a child with a vivid imagination, Brett chose his career path early in life, he wanted to be a filmmaker.

After graduating high school in the summer of 2000, Brett moved to Wilmington, NC and began an internship at EUE Screen Gems studios, working various crew positions on films such as Black Knight and Domestic Disturbance, as well as WB Television’s popular series Dawson’s Creek.  In the fall of 2001, Brett began his own production company, which he named Purple Hayes Productions, in honor of musical icon Jimi Hendrix.  Brett immediately assembled a core group of producers and actors and began work on his first feature length film, At Night With No Curtains.  Brett wrote and directed the film, which was shot over three weeks in the summer of 2002.  Shot entirely in black and white, At Night With No Curtains was a homage to the classic horror films that Brett loved.  A movie that focused primarily on suspense and character development, Brett’s film offered an alternative to the ultra-violent gore fests that passed as the usual fare in low budget horror.  The film developed a strong regional following and was accepted to the 2004 Nevermore Horror and Gothic Film Festival.

In early 2003, Brett wrote the screenplay for Southern Redemption Part I: From Midnight to Morning, Baby.  Purple Hayes Productions immediately went into development on the hard-hitting drama, which followed two blues musicians in the rural south.  The film premiered in June of 2004 and is already beginning to garner praise from critics, fans, and fellow filmmakers.  As his latest film begins to make its way across the country, Brett is quickly proving that he is one of filmmaking’s most promising young talents.
